Life Lesson #5: Cash is Cash, Even if it Comes From a Elephant’s Stomach

Buongiorno Brave Followers of Monte Cristo Isle,

When you have greenbacks in your hands, there are no maybes, no ifs, no credit checks, no anything. A check can always bounce, a credit card is for suckers, cash is always cash (which is why many establishments only accept hard currency). Carrying cash also helps you to see how much money you have and, believe it or not, for this reason spending cash is harder than spending with debit/credit – it’ll save you big-time.

Hope you enjoyed, let us all know what method of payment you prefer using in the comments below!

Life Lesson #4: Keep your friends close, your enemies closer.

Buongiorno brave followers of Monte Cristo Isle,

People always misunderstand this saying. It doesn’t mean you have to be best friends with your enemy, it just means you should do everything in your power to keep many tabs on your enemy. Have someone you trust in his vicinity. Know their moves, predict their thoughts, and capitalize on their weaknesses when they make them.

Becoming a ‘friend’ of an enemy may also be an interesting technique. It will most often confuse them, where this sudden kindness of yours stems from, keep them that way and capitalize. Also, take all the necessary precautions not to get stabbed in the back or get caught in their schemes. Remember, the best moves are the ones no one expects. Please feel free to share any interesting moments you’ve had in the comments below.

Life Lesson #3: When in doubt, follow your gut

My good friend Sherlock Holmes, from 221B Baker Street, has always followed this rule

Buongiorno brave followers of Monte Cristo Isle,

Intuition was given to us so that we can make a decision when all the elements in a decision-making process aren’t obvious. Listen to your gut, it’ll save you more often than it’ll hurt you. This applies whenever you are arriving at a conclusion, performing an action, or choosing the perfect timing.

Our gut kicks-in at a subconscious level, making it difficult to rationally explain why we ‘feel’ the path we’ve chosen is the right one. Of course listening to your gut isn’t bullet-proof, deception and crazy turns of events will always exist in the world, yet intuition makes chances of making smart choices increase. How?

Our subconscious level takes into account a crazy amount of information – deep and forgotten memories, cues, signs, timing, appearance, everything we would not be able to rationally and consciously organize in our brain by ourselves. Our brain is a powerful and mysterious computer!

Life Lesson #2: When you can’t win a war by playing fair, bend the rules. Better yet, break them

Buongiorno brave followers of Monte Cristo Isle,

We have one life, one opportunity, to realize the dreams we have – whether that entails reaching the career you wanted since childhood, buying a villa in Southern Italy with a view at the sea, traveling the world, mastering a hobby, securing a future for your children, starting a successful blog, or as simple as making people you love happy. If you don’t have a dream yet, get one, it will bring meaning, hope, and motivation to your life!

So now you’re thinking of the dream. You imagine it in its full beauty. Keep in mind, fellow reader, that this is only 10% of the battle. The other 90% involves making the dream happen. How?

7 Steps on how to fulfill your dream:

  1. Bend the rules. Better yet, break them! No, I don’t mean rush off your seat this instant to rob a bank or hijack a plane. What I mean is that there are 7.5 billion fish in the sea, all who want that dream life, that life which is waiting to be earned by you. It will be tough. Don’t let set standards and the massive amount of pursuing fish hold you back from trying – there is a way to overcome all obstacles. You don’t have grades for graduate school? Strengthen your extracurriculars and apply! Don’t have the money for that dream house? Start a business, gather a few friends to invest with you, and the house will be yours one day. Have given up all hope because you admit you’re lazy and you have no future? Realize that’s not the case, create a productive plan for the day, and work towards your goal. As my great-grandmother has said, “there are always 3 solutions to any problem“.
  2. Work hard and consistently. Please, please, please. It took me a long time to figure out, as the thoughts of reaching a dream “easily” are always there. Be sure to place in the effort and do it consistently. Don’t be a student who places all their effort into the first day of studies and then slacks off for the rest of the year; or in business – Don’t work at 100% until you hit your first obstacle and then stop! Think of solutions, consult with people, even me if you’d like, and a solution will come up. Show the world you want it. And if you plan to bring up the idea of winning a lottery – sure, that’ll give you instant money, but the things which follow (i.e. not knowing how to smartly invest it and sudden fame) will bring many more problems.
  3. Never, and I repeat, Never Give up. It’s always best to keep working on something you’ve already began developing rather than starting from scratch all over again. Why? Because you’ll most likely run into the same problems all-over again unless you learn to tackle them right now. Personally, before starting my first successful business, I’ve tried literally 50 ideas. You learn every time you lose. Never give up working towards you goal and choose a direction wisely. Then place all your efforts in it. Whatever hardships you face, never give up. That’s part of the formula for long-term success.
  4. Build connections. No famous pop-singer or artist entered fame on their own. It wasn’t solely because of talent either, as there are millions of very talented people in the world. They’ve most likely became famous under the wing of someone powerful, and same as to individuals this can be applied to businesses. Make connections everywhere you go, explore the people who are successful in what you want to do, contact them, collaborate, and enter the professional community this way.
  5. Have a reliable plan. Every big project requires a good plan. Make sure your idea is specific and each stage is carefully planned out. A to-do list may be helpful.
  6. Contact the Count of Monte Cristo. I’m far off from being a tooth-fairy or a magician, your dreams are ultimately destined to be achieved by you, but if there’s any help I may provide through advice – I’ll do so. Feel free to comment here or contact me via this blog.
  7. Remember – you are currently living the dream life of somebody else! We always strive to be better, I get it, but you will always find a person less-fortunate who would dream of a life you have right now. Be grateful for it everyday on your journey to success and help others once you reach it!

In summary, there are many ways to reach the dream you have. It’s possible, no matter how crazy and unattainable it may seem at the moment. Work hard, work consistently, go above and around set rules and standards, meet people along the way, have a reliable plan, and never give up. These are the fundamentals. Life Lesson #1: Silence is Powerful. Use it to your advantage.

My old pal Vito has mastered this lesson

Buongiorno my followers and fellow inhabitants of Monte Cristo Isle!

Today’s post, the first lesson of the blog, will be about silence.

Over time, silence has been perceived in several ways. For some, it is a sign of weakness. For others, a lack of communication skills. Many link silence to awkwardness and, in arguments, to defeat. You’ve most likely, my faithful follower, came across at least one of the above definitions of silence in your lifetime. What if I were to tell you that all of these are not necessarily the case; that the silence you oftentimes avoid actually has a strong side, a touch of wisdom, that you begin to understand the more you practice it? As I tend to keep things to the point, let us not waste any time and dive right in:

6 Benefits of Silence

  1. The more information you reveal to people, the greater the chances of your words being used against you. This applies to everyone – your family, friends, and especially – enemies. Information is power and by remaining silent, you obtain it rather than give it away. Words also give away your emotions, always talk in a calm manner.
  2. When you find yourself in an argument or on the edge of engaging in one, silence helps. From a 3rd-person’s perspective, the person who shuts-up first demonstrates better self-control and wisdom. The silence may also allow the other person in the argument to reassess the situation, especially if accompanied by a calm look in their eyes, or if they’re foolish it’ll enrage them even more. Better to stay silent in the first place – as it takes two to make an argument and ruin your relations.
  3. Silence is attractive. Ever heard of charisma? Well, that is a skill linked to passionate stares, light-hearted smiles, and confidence. Do you see “talking” here? I don’t. In fact the more you talk, the less mysterious you become and trust me – that kills attraction and all excitement associated with it. Of course you may flirt and hold small-talk, but never turn dialogues into monologues.
  4. Being silent means you listen more. Everyone loves talking and, by listening, you show them that you care. It gives people joy when they are heard and understood – hence, you will undoubtedly make friends everywhere you go. Keep your phrases short and let them do the talking.
  5. Silence is intimidating, use it to your advantage. Forget awkwardness, it may be used as a weapon to build pressure. Let’s say, for example, you are a detective and ask the suspect: “I don’t want to send you to jail for 24 months so one last time, do you have the stolen diamond or not?”. The suspect instantly replies “no!”. It’s an automatic defense, a fight-or-flight, capiche? What if now, instead of asking again or slamming hands on the table, you stare and say nothing more? It will put pressure on the person and, as thoughts rush through their head, they will weaken up and talk. You probably wouldn’t get that even if you physically injured them but, with invisible silence, it’s possible.
  6. Silence gives you time to reflect about decisions you’ve made and makes you more focused. You get to know yourself better and, by practicing silence, you make better and more clear decisions in the future.
